This technique of Plexiglas engraving emerged during my studies in l’Ecole Boulle, in the workshop of ‘gravure en modelé’. With chisels, on thin Plexiglas plates, I engraved stylised motifs representing feathers, birds or flowers. By incising the surface, I create a contrast in the material that reveals the pattern under the light.
I like to engrave in this soft material delicate patterns that seem almost real, and play with subtle effects of light, material and depth. Wild flowers are always a great subject of wonder, so I pick them up and photograph them during my walks to keep them as inspiration.
